What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a dermatological treatment in which an acid solution is applied to the skin, resulting in controlled exfoliation of the epidermis. By eliminating dead cells and stimulating cell renewal, it improves skin texture, tone and overall appearance.

Depending on the type of peel and its depth (from superficial to medium), results can range from an immediate burst of radiance to visible correction of pigmentation disorders or acne.

Who can benefit from chemical peeling?

Chemical peels are aimed at a wide range of customers wishing to improve the appearance of their skin. At DBDJ, we use them to prepare your skin for our laser treatments (Halo, TRL, Profrac) or BBL HEROic. The peel is performed 2 weeks before your treatment.

What are the contraindications to chemical peel treatment?

There are certain contraindications to chemical peeling. Here are a few of them:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Known allergy to the peel's active ingredients
  • Active skin infections (e.g. herpes, impetigo)
  • Eczema or psoriasis active on the treated area
  • Recent use of isotretinoin (Accutane)
  • Very sensitized or irritated skin
  • Tendency to hypertrophic or keloid scars

When should I have a Vivier Jessner chemical peel?

A peel can be used at two strategic points in a protocol combined with BBL or HALO. For skin preparation, we recommend peeling 2 to 4 weeks before treatment to optimize laser penetration and effectiveness.

As a maintenance treatment, a peel can be performed 4 to 6 weeks after HALO to prolong radiance, maintain even skin tone and sustain results over time.

Does a chemical peel hurt?

Most patients experience a tingling, warmth or slight burning sensation during the application of the chemical peel.

This sensation is generally well tolerated and disappears rapidly once the product has been neutralized.

How long does it take for the skin to peel after a peel?

After a chemical peel, the skin generally begins to peel between 2 and 5 days after the session. During this period, it's essential to let the skin peel naturally, and to follow the skin care recommended by the clinic to avoid any irritation or marks.
