What is ProFrac?

ProFractional (ProFrac) is a fractional ablative laser treatment using Er:YAG 2940 nm, designed to penetrate deep into the dermis while leaving skin intact between treatment columns. It enables faster recovery than full ablative lasers, while strongly stimulating collagen and tissue repair.

Who can benefit from ProFractional treatment?

ProFrac is ideal for patients seeking in-depth regeneration with a moderate recovery time, and who show signs of aging or marked irregularities.

Issues Target areas / Objectives
Moderate to severe acne scars
  • Irregular texture, ice pick or roll scars
Deep localized wrinkles
  • Eye contour (peri-ocular wrinkles)
  • Mouth contours (perioral wrinkles)
  • Marked cheeks
Slight to moderate skin laxity
  • Middle and lower third of the face
Irregular skin texture / dilated pores
  • Visible improvement in texture in 1 to 3 sessions

  • Visible scar reduction (acne, surgical or traumatic scars)

ProFractional and Contour TRL: what's the difference?

Criteria ProFractional Contour TRL (Er:YAG) Combined use
Laser type Fractionated Er:YAG (2940 nm) Complete ablative Er:YAG (2940 nm) Both use the same wavelength for optimum synergy
Mode of action Creates micro-columns in the skin, leaving healthy tissue between treated areas to promote rapid healing Removes a thin, even layer from the skin's surface to smooth and even skin tone TRL prepares and evens out the surface, ProFractional treats more deeply
Main target Texture, scars, deep wrinkles, intense collagen stimulation Fine and deep wrinkles, pigment spots and irregular textures Simultaneous correction of surface and deep layers
Depth Adjustable to the micron, down to the deep dermis according to indication Adjustable, but acts mainly on the epidermis and superficial dermis Allows treatment of all skin layers in a single protocol
Recovery time 7 to 14 days or more depending on intensity 5 to 14 days depending on depth. For deep wrinkles: 14 to 30 days or more, depending on intensity. Combined recovery similar to a single treatment, but with optimized results
Results Restructures skin deep down by intensely stimulating collagen Significant reduction or even complete resolution of wrinkles More complete and lasting overall results

Frequently asked questions

  • What are the contraindications to Profractional treatment?
  • How often should I have a Profractional treatment?
  • Does ProFrac hurt?
How much does a ProFrac treatment cost?

The cost depends on the size and area to be treated, and whether it is performed alone or in combination with Contour TRL. At DBDJ, we believe that a personalized treatment plan is essential to accurately assess your needs and provide you with the most appropriate advice. That's why we're pleased to offer you a free initial consultation, during which we'll draw up a customized treatment plan and provide you with a detailed cost estimate.

What are the contraindications to Profractional treatment?

There are some contraindications to ProFractional treatment. Here are some of them:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active skin infections (e.g. herpes, impetigo)
  • Recent use of isotretinoin (Accutane)
  • Recently tanned skin or use of self-tanner
  • Tendency to hypertrophic or keloid scars
  • Severe inflammatory skin diseases (active psoriasis, severe eczema)
  • Certain illnesses or treatments that may delay healing (to be assessed in consultation)

How often should I have a Profractional treatment?

In many cases, a single ProFractional treatment can offer visible improvement. For more pronounced scars or wrinkles, 2 to 3 sessions may be recommended, spaced 3 to 6 months apart to allow complete skin regeneration.

Does ProFrac hurt?

For light treatments, an anaesthetic cream is generally sufficient to ensure comfort; for deeper treatments, a local anaesthetic or nerve block may be proposed. Patients often describe a sensation of intense heat or tingling during the session, followed by a sunburn-like sensation that disappears within a few hours.
