What is TRL treatment

The TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) is an Er:YAG 2940 nm laser for skin resurfacing with micron-level precision. With its two treatment modes, MicroLaserPeel® (superficial) and Deep Resurfacing, TRL adapts to the skin's condition and the patient's clinical objectives. It effectively treats deep wrinkles, actinic lesions, irregular or thickened texture, as well as severe scarring.

Who can benefit from TRL treatment?

TRL is indicated for patients with marked skin aging or complex lesions, who are prepared to accept a longer recovery time to achieve outstanding results.

Issues Target areas / Objectives
Severe skin aging
  • Deep wrinkles (perioral, nasolabial fold, eye contour)
Altered texture
  • Thickened or roughened skin
  • Excessive keratinization
  • Deep scars (acne, post-traumatic, surgical)
Precancerous lesions
  • Actinic keratoses
Looking for visible, lasting results
  • Global non-surgical rejuvenation
  • Significant results in a single session (deep mode)

Results expected after TRL treatment

  • Marked reduction in fine lines and wrinkles - the deepest can be significantly reduced, and the shallowest can disappear completely.
  • Improves skin texture and firmness through intense collagen stimulation.
  • Significant reduction in scars (acne, post-traumatic or surgical).
  • Even skin tone with reduced pigmentation spots and sun damage.
  • Overall rejuvenated appearance with smoother, brighter, more even skin. Results are progressive and continue to improve for 3 to 6 months.

Contour TRL™ or Laser CO₂: what's the difference?

Criteria Contour TRL (Er:YAG) Laser CO₂
Technology More recent, designed to optimize results with fewer side effects Older, but still used in certain cases
Laser type Erbium:YAG (2940 nm) Carbon dioxide (10,600 nm)
Mode of action Adjustable ablative laser with ultra-precise depth control (to the nearest micron) Ablative laser with less precise penetration depth, higher risk of residual heat
Residual heat Very low → less thermal damage to surrounding tissue High → more collateral thermal damage
Precision Extreme precision thanks to independent control of ablation and coagulation Less precise: depth due to thermal diffusion
Security Lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and scarring Higher risk of hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation or scarring, especially on darker skins
Ideal customers Patients seeking overall rejuvenation without prolonged downtime Patients requiring deep correction in a single treatment

How much does TRL treatment cost?

Prices vary according to the area treated, the depth of treatment and the desired objectives. As an indication, a treatment can start at around $1,500 for a targeted area. A personalized assessment during the consultation will enable us to draw up a precise plan and estimate.

See our pricing page for more details.

What are the contraindications to TRL treatment?

There are a number of contraindications, some of which are listed below.

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active infections or skin lesions on the treatment area
  • History of hypertrophic or keloid scars
  • Recent isotretinoin treatments (Accutane)
  • Severe inflammatory skin diseases
  • Very dark phototypes (special precautions)
  • Certain systemic diseases or photosensitizing medications

How long between two TRL sessions?

The interval depends on the depth of treatment:

  • Light treatment: often only one treatment is needed, but when a second session is indicated, we recommend waiting around 3 months.
  • Medium to deep treatment: Most of the time, a single treatment is sufficient.

Does TRL hurt?

The sensation varies according to the depth of treatment. For light treatments, an anaesthetic cream is generally sufficient for good comfort. For deeper treatments, a local anaesthetic or nerve block may be suggested. Patients often describe a sensation of intense heat or tingling during treatment, followed by a sunburn-like sensation for a few hours.
